Celebrating The New Railroad

In recognition of rail service between Shreveport and Texarkana, initiated two weeks earlier, a celebration is held 01-May-1896 in Mooringsport on the banks of Caddo Lake. It was estimated to be attended by approximately 1,000 persons and included participants from all three communities. Featured were speakers, a barbeque, and dancing, with music provided by a string band .
